Governor to get serven aides,four cars,three drivers,three cooks
Ebonyi State House of Assembly, passed into law a bill to amend the State’s Specified Officers Pensions and Related Matters, No. two of 2007 which provided for continued salaries as pensions to former governors and deputies elected under any democratic dispensation in the state.
Under the law, the ex-governors would also be entitled to two personal aides, five security operatives, four official cars, three drivers, three cooks as well as ten per cent of their annual pension as annual medical allowance.
Accordingly, any person who successfully completes his tenure as a deputy governor in the state is entitled to the basic salary of the incumbent deputy governor, two official cars, one aide and other privileges.
Exemptions
However, the law bars any former governor or deputy governor who, having been found guilty of a crime by a court of law, who resigned or was impeached, from office from enjoying the pension benefits.
Efforts by the Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Dorothy Obassi, to include people who held similar position in the past in other states before the creation of Ebonyi State, such as Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who was former governor of Abia State, was defeated.
The Bill first passed the second reading and was committed to the Committee of the Whole House where, after due deliberation, leader of the House, Ikechukwu Nwobo, moved a motion for its passage which was seconded by the Chief Whip, Uchenna Orji.
The State Assembly similarly passed into law bills for the establishment of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation and to provide for Related Matters; the bill for a law to establish Ebonyi State Hotels and Tourism Board and to provide for Related Matters.
However a private member bill, by the Leader of the House, Nwobo, seeking a law to provide all forms of discrimination against all Persons Living with HIV/AIDS, PLAWA, in Ebonyi Stat.
